    In 1962 the spies could be obtained from GENELCO out of NYC. The only difference was the Zone of interest. You signed up for one job and found yourself doing another. You did that because you didn't want to annoy the Company. So what to do? You got yourself a box of whites, a bottle of JD to wash them down, a stack of guitar strings A and E, and you got through it.  When you got home you avoided the news, watched only stupid things on tv, built yourself a new life and hoped the dreams stopped.
