    There is a school of thought on this blog that the word "BREAKING" is overused.

      then what does "Breaking" mean?  Is it for an emerging story?  If not, what is it for?

        I think it means "new" but is in conjunction with something of importance.  You could technically say that me having french toast, this morning, was breaking since I usually have oatmeal--but nobody cares.  Breaking is a term meant to gain attention to a news story because it's more of an urgency.
        I agree with those who say it's overused on Kos.
