  •  BTW, that movie is a Smithee Award Winner. (6+ / 0-)

In fact, it's one that I saw my first year that I attended.

    The Angry Red Planet

SYNOPSIS:  A rocketship returns from Mars with two crewmembers missing, a third suffering from a mysterious ailment, and all their magnetic data tapes erased. The government is in a race to discover what has happened, in an attempt to save the life of the stricken crewmember. The movie takes place in flashback, and in "Cinemagic" (i.e. "migraine vision") when on the surface of Mars.

    Smithee Award Winner! Stupidest-Looking Monster

       Bat-Rat-Spider-Crab
This is one of the sequences on the surface of Mars shot in "Cinemagic." The astronauts encounter a very large native Martian life-form.

Smithee Award Winner! Acting Appropriately Stupid

To Hell with Radiation! It's a Babe!
The Mars rocketship has landed. Is it radioactive? Wait a minute, the girl astronaut is coming out by herself. To hell with the radiation, let's go!

    Crummiest Ending

       Yeah, Yeah, Blah, Blah, Blah...
Our peaceful, advanced civilization will destroy you.... If we don't bore you to death first with our preachy, heavy-handed voice-over message at the end of the film.

And yes, it was up against Gorath, a movie I commented on three weeks ago.
