  •  Gordon Smith's latest ads... (5+ / 0-)

are aimed solely at Jeff Merkley.

That's what the intro to this diary is referring to, and the rest lays out some of the many reasons why I support Jeff Merkley in this race.

I'm not contractually obligated to advocate for candidates that I do not support in the primary.  And I'm also not going to call you 'dishonest' for failing to mention Candy Neville's candidacy in your post...

In the meantime, I'll advocate for the candidate I support.  Likewise, you're welcome to do the same for yours.

    That's why we're here, isn't it?

    •  Nope. Half-truths... (0+ / 0-)

I don't support Novick over Merkley, but do believe in honesty.

If you're so righteous, why didn't you devote your diary to a "Merkley is better than Novick" theme?

Instead you try to drum-up support from people who aren't aware of the current primary, by raising the specter of Smith.

      •  I DO support Novick, and I think it's OK (4+ / 0-)

I think it's a lot to ask to force someone to mention their candidate's opponent in the name of some kind of balance. It's his diary! If you want to fill in gaps you think were left (like I did), you should feel free to do so.

But I sure am not going to go on about Jeff Merkley in one of MY diaries, and I don't expect Merkley backers to talk about Steve, either.

      •  Yeah, okay. (4+ / 0-)

I'm sorry, but this makes absolutely no sense -

If you're so righteous, why didn't you devote your diary to a "Merkley is better than Novick" theme?

That's been done before, on numerous occasions.  If you'd like to read a diary along those lines, there will be others.  This one is about something else, I'm sorry if that upsets you.

I also hope from now on, you'll take your 'righteousness' and 'honesty' you've so clearly established here into every diary you come across here at this site that supports a candidate over the Republican they will run against if they win their primary.

You can start by scolding everybody who posts comments against McCain.

I won't be holding my breath, though...

to write positive candidate diaries without focusing on primary opponents. Many people like myself have been doing it for years on Kos. It's not dishonest to promote your preferred candidate and try to avoid a pie fight at the same time.

The biggest theme of Jeff Merkley's campaign is showing why he's the best and most credible challenger to Gordon Smith.  Simply put, we can't afford to wait until the primary to turn our political crosshairs on Smith.

Smith's no 'specter' he's very real, and very wrong for Oregon.  (And if I remember corrently, Specter is actually from Pennsylvania).

I support Jeff Merkley because he's made this race about how he's going to end Gordon Smith's reckless representation of our state and put us back on the right track.  His record of progressive accomplishments are like a strong 'works cited' section of a paper with a powerful thesis.

We can do it, and Merkley's eager to lead the charge forward.

        •  better to have a better progressive (0+ / 0-)

Let's go with the stronger progressive and the better campaigner in the race, Steve Novick. Merkley is to the right of Novick on a number of issues, and has disappointed the DSCC masters who recruited him. Novick has the energy and the right combination that the Senate so desperately needs.
