    and that is why you will see that I have included no current Republicans in the diary.

    Are there Republicans in office now who are actually helping this country in ways I think it should be helped? Statistically speaking, there must be (law of large numbers -- the more of X you have, the higher the probability that a Y is in there), but I don't know of them. All I know of are the Republicans who use fear and lies.

      Chuck Hagel's opposition to the war is based on his military experience and not any of the classic views of the old "Rockefeller wing" of the party.  I suppose Arlen Spector is the closest there is to the old types in the Senate.  And, of course, you have the Maine women:  Collins and Snowe.

       I worked for a Republican with Democratic party  leanings, but she was not in the federal government and not a legislator. (She also would not want me to identify her because They would drum her out of the party but any public acknowledgment that she doesn't agree with the national Republican party on almost anything with any controversy.)

      There was a guy who ran against the party in 2000 seeking their presidential nomination. They did not give it to him and treated him like garbage.  I don't know what happened to him since he no longer appears in public.
