  •  Well, understanding healthcare policy... (0+ / 0-)

...doesn't really benefit anyone, while a new Coach handbag might actually benefit me. Changing policy might benefit people but, realistically, as an intern or staffer you won't actually be changing anything.

A lot of people here are political junkies because they enjoy it. Some people actually work in politics, without being obsessed with it, because it's a job and they feel like they're making a bit of a difference. This person in question may never actually be a politician herself, but I don't understand the standard of assuming every staffer obsessively studies every topic as much as a lot of people here do.

and don't you think it's important for an intern or staffer to talk intelligently about issues that the people they are working for are campaigning on? These are the people who are talking to voters and organizing. And I disagree that interns or staffers won't be changing anything. You'd be surprised at the influence some of these young people can have....

...being of the male gender after all, but whatever.

More to the point, plenty of people take internships because they sound interesting and look good on a resume even though they have no intention of permanently working in that particular field. In this job, she'll probably learn a lot and hopefully contribute something useful. That's basically the purpose of an internship; you don't need to be a political expert walking in the door (nor will you actually find many of those).

Hell, have you ever watched Meet the Press? Campaigns send plenty of their full-time staffers to make fools of themselves on television. It seems absurd to expect college students to be better.

some of those interns likely do lots of needed work. Others , as mentioned , are out to build a self serving list of Things I did. Some of them may actually work hard , too. someone has to make the coffee , sharpen pencils , etc. But you know that ; read a lot of your comments , you're a smart person no doubt.

put in her abition to be a Congresswoman by the time she is 26. But I had put that down to a lack of understanding of what it takes to be the candidate. No one really knows that until they have done it.

If you live in fear, then the worst that can happen to you has already happened. Will You live in fear?
