  •  Hi de (6+ / 0-)

Excellent diary, as always.  As much as this stuff scares me, we really need to know what we're up against.

Slightly off-topic--You've mentioned the Vineyard a couple of times.  Is that an Assemblies daughter? Also, is it the one operating in California? TIA.

Vineyard is essentially an Assemblies "great-grandaughter"; the lineage goes something like Assemblies -> International Foursquare -> Calvary Chapel -> Vineyard (Vineyard largely split from Calvary Chapel over the embracing of more modern forms of worship--aka "should we let rock guitars in the chapel").  Vineyard has especially embraced "Joel's Army" theology, and a Vineyard church in Toronto, ON (Toronto Airport Fellowship) was the seat of an earlier "modern era" Joel's Army "revival" in the late 80s-early 90s.

And thanks for the kind comments.

Somewhat interesting (but slightly scary) tidbit: During Bob Dylan's "Christian phase" where he was basically preaching sermons at his concerts for a little while, and recorded a couple of Christian albums, the rumor is that he had been recruited into a Vineyard Church.  From what you say about their theology regarding Messianic Jews, recruiting a high profile Jewish person probably fit right in with them.  Weird, huh? I understand he later got out of that situation though, thank goodness.  He's never stated much on it in interviews, so take the rumors for what they're worth.  Anyway, thought you might find that interesting.

Also, is International Foursquare related to Foursquare Gospel? There is one of those in the town where I grew up.
