    Senator James Webb:
"We shouldn't be surprised at the way they are voting right now," said Webb in an interview with MSNBC. "This is the result of how affirmative action, which was basically a justifiable concept when it applied to African-Americans, expanded to every single ethnic group in America that was not white. And these were the people who had not received benefits and were not getting anything out of it."

"When I hear people say this is racism, it gets my back up a little bit because that's my cultural group," said Webb. "This isn't Selma, 1965."

    •  I'm sorry, but could you be a bit clearer? (0+ / 0-)

The fact is that more West Virginians voted for Obama than for McCain.

Even though Michelle Obama has twice as many black babyies as McCombover.

So exactly what would you like to say to that?

    •  Webb is wrong. Race/Gender are the classification (1+ / 0-)

for any benefit through the Affirmative Action Program and not poverty.

But Webb is right that only a specific race-African Americans because past injustices were the only ones named in the US Constitution and not other minorities per se or women as is the case today.

Webb failed to acknowledge that Affirmative Action also covers Appalachian women.

They should protest being classified as whites and don't take it out on Obama.

"They should protest being classified as whites."

      •  I still don't get why what Webb said (1+ / 0-)

has anything to do with WV voters.

He may be white but he's never been even close to poor.

And he's from VIRGINIA, people, not WEST VIRGINIA.

        •  He tried to show that he is smart but no sense. (0+ / 0-)
          •  Webb is talking about the Scots Irish.... (1+ / 0-)

who are a big ethnic group in Appalachia.  In his book, "Born Fighting" he discusses race in Appalachia.  He says that the media has divided these two groups, who should be natural allies, based on Affirmative Action.  That is what he is saying here.

When you make voting for Clinton and against Obama a test of racism, you are simplistic about Appalachia and West Virginia.  Obama didn't campaign here well- and he has fervent supporters.
