I don't blame Kerry for the war, but I AM very pissed off at him for supporting the IWR because as someone who did time in 'Nam and who led protests against the Vietnam war, Kerry should know better.  I believe he DOES know better, and that he only supported Bush's war mongering because he thought it would help him get elected as president.  For the sake of our country, I hope Kerry's gamble pays off, but it's a gamble I wish we didn't have to take.  I wish democrats had nominated someone with a steel spine and titanium balls that clanked together when he reared up to attack republicans.  Yeah, you know who I'm talkin' about!

I don't understand why it's so difficult for Kossacks to hate JFK's position on Iraq and still support his candidacy.  This eleciton is about something bigger than any single person, and even if it wasn't, none of us will EVER find a candidate who perfectly mirrors our own personal political views.  I support Kerry and I work at the local office doing data entry for his campaign--but if he wins I hope to work for Dean or Obama to unseat the spineless twit in '04.

Listen, right now America is riding in a car that leaks exhaust fumes into the passenger compartment, has no brakes, and jerks to the left and oncoming traffic because of a faulty power steering pump.  We have a chance now to trade this POS car in for a Ford Excursion.  Are we going to trade up, or will we whine about gas mileage, rollover dangers, and poor braking distances?  No, we take the Excursion, but then we keep looking for something better to trade up to, like a Toyota Prius.  And if we ever get into a Prius, we start looking for something even better.  The one important rule is to never get too attached to one single car, because then it limits our chances of improvement.

Oh, and we need to smash the current democratic party into a thousand pieces, but that can wait until Bush wins a second term.  :)

The diary is accurate.  And Kerry did the right thing in voting to give the Commander-in-Chief Buford T Pusser powers.

What went horribly wrong is Bush decided to take matters into his own hands.  He ignored advice from his cabinet.  He ignored advice from the intelligence community.  He ignored everything the UN advised.

Today the issue is this "We went to war, people die in wars, we have to fight this war."  And that is all bullshit.  The President was given the power to react to threats.  He was not give carte blanche to launch war against who the fuck ever he wanted to kill.

I don't give a flying fuck how your Senators voted.  They voted their conscience, so did Kerry.  The media has turned Kerry into a weak-willed snob.  I have said this a hundred times in here, Kerry showed up, he volunteered.  Bush shirked his duty when he served.  Kerry has SEEN war up close and personal.  Kerry knows how bad war sucks.  But that does not mean that he believes the President should not have the power to act if it becomes necessary.  He hated Nixon, not the office.  He voted for the office and not Bush.

Equivocating doesn't do any good.  "Well he should have...Well he could have...Well MY Senator did this...Well if Dean would have won...."

It doesn't matter anymore.  DEAN did not win.  Dean will never win, in 2008 or 2020.  Bush IS the President and he IS an idiot.  Kerry is a lot of things but he is no flip-flopper and he will work for America.  Yes he will treat some special interest groups favorably and yes he is going to make mistakes.  But give me Kerry for 2 terms over any republican alive.

Great diary, my hat is off to you sir.
