And I'll grant that he's being stingy with benefits

But I'm still mystified why everyone seems to be giddy with glee, imagining that McCain is "unglued" or has somehow "stepped in it".  They're acting like he introduced a bill to decriminalize rape, or something.

I see nothing in his response that won't sell well enough with his target audience.  If anything, it gave him to opportunity to point out that Obama lacks any service record.

and John McCain was 5 when Pearl Harbor was attacked.  Yes, McCain's right-wing nut cases at the early dinner special may like this crap but anyone who is still making up their mind will look at this and wonder what the hell he is talking about.

      •  You can add Bush to the list too. (0+ / 0-)

Along with a whole host of other GOP chickenhawks.

You don't have to convince me.  I'm not saying that Obama's lack of service disqualifies him or makes him any less patriotic.  I am saying that this is the cudgel that the GOP will use against him.  The smart thing would be to diffuse it in advance with a VP like Clark or Webb.  In lieu of that, he needs to trend lightly when going toe-to-toe on veteran issues with a guy who spent a couple years in a tiger cage.

don't get what sounds so unglued or unhinged and what the glee is all about.
