that allowing 100's of thousand of people that dislike  9to put it mildly)  the Castro's to visit the island and show their friends and family the improvements in their lives under the US system of Govt helps Raul Castro?

And I am paraphrasing "I knew Fidel Castro and you Raul are not Fidel Castro" without Fidel to hold it together the Cuban leftist system could survive but definitely can't flourish.

My bet they'll go with the China model, by allowing openly small/medium  business and foreign investment supervised by the Govt.

      begin some dialog.

Much of Latin America has moved leftward in the last 10 years.  The days of US policing of the Americas are over, which Obama points out.  We need to form new partnerships.

Lula in Brazil, Chavez in Venezuela, Mrs. Kirchner, in Argentina, Correa in Ecuador are all left leaning popoulists with major anti poverty goals and programs.  Evo Morales of Bolivia seems the farthest left to me, along with Chavez.  Lula has a more balanced economic program  in my opinion than the others.

Even Daniel Ortega in Nicaragua is trying to  turn over a new leaf.  He's a Christian now.

Seems like the people are deciding for themselves which is fine with me. We can and should engage these givernments as long as they maintain democracy.

but any political system (and those who benefit from it) as a rule tries to perpetuate its power,

what dooms the hard left political systems is the destruction of the means of production, yes the fields and manufacturing plants are still there, but it doesn't make any difference to the managers and workers if they are successful ergo they aren't, it is hard to understand a world that if you work hard or if you just don't work you get the same benefits so why worry, as a result there is no food, no TV, no phone, etc. regardless if you are the best industrial manager or an idle field hand.

What China did was bait the west with their untapped one billion consumers market into financing their economic growth and they were successful beyond their wildest dreams, restricted the foreign capitalism to a few cities where a few nationals (that pay proper respect to the Party) are reaping its benefits  while the workers  both in the city and in the country didn't  enjoy any change from the orthodox Marxist rule.
