  •  Jimmy Carter (7+ / 0-)

They laughed and ridiculed the man that saw this coming.  He saw the decline and fall, St Ronnie led the descent.  We're all subprime now--bring back Jimmy!!!!

    •  They still hate Jimmy (5+ / 0-)

Check out the RW blogs for his talks with the Pals. There are calls for his being hanged for being a traitor. It is amazing that a man who wishes to do good so sincerely could attract so much bile.

Maybe it is because those who hate him don't understand him and fear what they can't grasp.

I'm not a fan of Carter, but at least they guy has the sense to point out that there will never be peace in the middle east as long as the Zionists oppress the Palestinians. But the response from the corporate media has been to try to slap him down for that. Obama and Clinton are terrible on the Israel-Palestine question.

was that Israeli society is dual natured; prior to 1967, Israel was predicated heavily on the Zionist model and even secular Israelis accepted at some level that there is a divine decree that the Jews have Israel.

Since then, Israeli society has developed and become more cosmopolitan. However the earmarks and special religious dispensations remain as do the statements that Israel is divinely ordained to have a right of existence.  The most extreme example of this is seen with some rabbis and settlers who hold that God has given them all of Greater Israel and that nonJews should be expelled.  The most radical also want rabbinical law to replace civil law, echoing Muslim Salafists, ironically.

This historian concluded that Zionism in today's world is counter-survival and that Israel had to move to a more secular state with a more diverse culture.

The number one cause of anti-Jewish prejudice in the middle east today is the aggressive policies of Israel in its treatment of the Palestinian people. The only solution is to replace Israel with a democratic, secular state containing both the Jewish and Palestinian populations.

As a first step, we have to call for ending US military aid to Israel.

My family mostly escaped the czars and the nazis.  From their perspective, zionism was a shield used by European bigots to rid their land of Jews.  After WWII, my grandparents felt Jews should be resettled in the Sudatenland--it's where they lived and the language was local dialect.

for an I/P flame war that has nothing to do with Kevin Phillips' book.

or complete idiocy? You support a misogynistic, murderous, self-immolating culture over a democratic, peace-loving state that is merely trying to survive in the midst of Islamic madmen?

          We are so fucked.
