  •  can the effete Obama and a woman protect us? (0+ / 0-)

Well, of course.   But that's the Republican line if it were Obama and Clair.   It's arguable that the folks that would respond to such bull wouldn't vote for the guy with the funny name anyway, but let's just say a woman besides HRC (especially ones without any foreign policy or national security experience) doesn't help.

The only woman VP they wouldn't use that on is HRC, since we all know she's batshit crazy- but they'd go after her for the dozens of other reasons their biggest hope is she is the VP.

Wish Webb had more Senatorial exp- probably can't help much in swaying Senate votes.   Edwards still has too little experience and with his $400 haircuts, the Demo ticket becomes the Metrosexual ticket (again- vulnerable on that National Security argument for whomever only judges those things by gray hairs or body weight).   I have always liked Clark, and what he lacks in charisma obviously will not be a problem since O has that in spades.   Might not fair too well in a VP debate depending on who the Republicans put up.

I still go with Richardson.  Gaffe prone?  Maybe.  But they all have shortcomings- Bill R is affable, exec and Congressional exp, diplomat, a guy anyone would want to have a beer wtih, will bring in some Latino votes and help with the west.   He's a more complete package than anyone else.

    •  Is there really any proof of bringing those votes (1+ / 0-)

for?  If only Richardson hadn't waited until after Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas, we might know what his impact might have been in those states.  If the argument in his favor for VP is correct, and he could have helped Obama overcome razor thin popular vote margins in all three of those states, that's definitely worth something; the problem is we'll never know.

In terms of broader Latin American appeal to those not from his region, my Spanish-speaking girlfriend who I briefly mentioned in this diary, was surprised when I told her Richardson was Hispanic last spring - her reaction was "Him? Really?".

      Just sayin'.

(Also, the argument that HRC has any more national security experience than any other relatively new Senator would be torn to shreds by Republicans; in fact, with HRC's repeated boastful exaggerations of her experience, including the Tuzla flap, she is more vulnerable on national security than McCaskill, Sebelius, or any other female contender - she could be lampooned to shreds with ease with all the fodder she's provided)

Do we really want another YEAR of trying to explain to everyone why the Democratic nominee voted to authorize the Iraq war before they were against it?

      •  that's crazy (0+ / 0-)

he has to be a beaner to qualify as hispanic?

she clearly hasn't traveled much to understand how diverse latin america is.

        •  That's not what I said (0+ / 0-)

My girlfriend is very light skinned, she looks less Hispanic than Richardson - you're missing the point, which is that that the kind of split-second identity recognition that would increase any ethnicity's vote doesn't apply to Richardson because neither his name or appearance make that obvious.  And when did I at any point in my post say that only Mexicans are Hispanic?  Why would my Uruguayan girlfriend (as I described in the diary), of all people, think all Mexicans are Hispanic?  Please re-read my post.

        •  She wouldn't think "all Hispanics are Mexican" (0+ / 0-)

is what I meant to say (clearly the converse is true).
