  •  80th Assembly District and 2/3's Majority (0+ / 0-)

Actually, as someone else said, "All politics is local."  Also, in California, the State Assembly is just shy 2/3's Democratic, making the Assembly almost veto-proof to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's whims.

So, since the 80th Assembly District is now the most Democratic of the State Assembly seats now held by a Republican, since she is now termed-out, and since Democrats now have 15,000+ more voters than Republicans in the District, not even counting the thousands of Decline to States, the election is of significance.  Significance on a local and state level in the most populous state in the Nation.

Also, since Greg Pettis is an openly-gay candidate, and the leading fundraiser and with all of the local Democratic Club endorsements, the voters' decisions on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, will have impact on the November ballot proposition regarding a State Constitutional Ammendment to ban Marriage Equality.  (You can be sure that the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and others will analyze the results of races involving LGBT candidates and their impact on November's decision.)
