    If you look up the reference there are land developers in Texas I think who buy former farmland w/direct payment history and then sell the land with the paperwork ready to collect the subsidy for the new owner. You can't do many things with the land, but building one residence and collecting direct payments is totally acceptable. I have no criticisms w/what your family does.
