And I felt the same way about McCain oh, about eight years ago. But the man has done too much to burn bridges, to humiliate himself, to allow torture despite being the one politician in this country who could have stopped it, to turn his back on everything he believed in, and to send our young men and women to their deaths, to get much sympathy from me anymore. He used it all up.

    •  He attached himself to Bush... (3+ / 0-)

...and dishonored his fellow servicemen by sitting idly by as draft-dodger Bush smeared veteran John Kerry.

He now gets to reap the benefits of attaching himself to Bush.

       His choice.

all over McCain because he came out against torture.  Most conservatives lay that one on him whenever they are listing the reasons why they won't vote for him.

      •  yeah, but then he got out of the way (1+ / 0-)

        ...he gave in, right away.

He's just being hoist by his own petard, because the right won't forgive him for not cheerleading every kind of torture their is.

he's got a base problem bigger than Obama's, and the GOP base is smaller to begin with.

        •  Independents (0+ / 0-)

Your right about the GOP base but Obama has a problem with the independents which will decide the election.  For whatever reason McCain does well with independents probably because of the "maverick" tag.

          •  for now (0+ / 0-)

in the end, I suspect Obama and McCain will split Indies and pick up most of their base... but the D base is bigger these days, so Obama wins.

we, of course, will see. but the thing that makes the GOP base smaller is Bush, so that's why the CBS poll is important (not the head to heads).

I know he is not the man he used to be.  I know he did all these things wrong, but I still say he is in over his head and should have never been a senator.  What he should have done is run Cindy's beer business.  He would have had a lot more fun, he would have been great for business and he wouldn't have to curb his awful temper.

I know he has been awful as a senator.  I still feel bad for him.
