    Any reference to Hitler does not automatically nullify your argument. Sometimes the reference is justified, sometimes it's not. I'm getting really sick of this Godwin's Law business.

    However, I also agree that, in this instance, the specific reference to Hitler was unnecessary. Saying that it had been done before would have sufficed.

    The real problem with the statement is, as El Ochito said, the belief that we should be looking backwards rather than forwards with our energy policies. Coal gassification merely delayed the defeat of Hitler's military, and it would similarly delay our conversion to renewable resources (with equally disastrous results).
