    It meant that there was no question about the legitimacy of their incarceration,  so there was no need for any sort of "trial".

    It also meant that they could not be subjected to the sort of conditions that exist in Gitmo,  even if you believe the most favorable descriptions of them and dismiss all the allegations of abuse.

    The whole issue of "hearings for POWs" is just another Republican red herring.
