  •  The problems with Russert's journalism (5+ / 0-)

    aren't so much his 'bias'.  

    It was that his form of 'objectivity' was equating the facts with a lie in some false pretense of 'objectivity'.

    I don't think Russert did this all the time and he certainly wasn't the worst offender. He had some good moments. He also had some really disturbing moments.

    He definitely was a fixture in the lives of anyone that followed politics.

    But, his kind of 'journalism' was really problematic. It privileged the game, the gotcha, the horse race over the issue and the real, not political game, effects of public policy.

    He also elevated what was good for his corporations profits above what was good for the public interest.

    I'm sure many, many good people in media struggle with this daily.  Of how to balance the demand to be profitable with what is in the public interest.

    Almost all the time, the public interest loses..
