I will also note that we lost a great deal of authority to manage our democracy when we granted everyone the right to "an opinion" and then gave them equal weight in the discussion.  We faint at the thought of calling someone out when they say stupid, or foolish things.  We give "equal time" to the lie, the truth, and the meaningless.  We have lost the cultural strength to call BS when it parades before us, naked and strutting.

Some people are like blotters -- they soak it all up but get it all backward.

And I have been arguing much the same in those dreaded Russert diaries. Abdication of responsibility for the state of this nation to the big bad boogie man media and other entities has been to our detriment. Until we recognize the wilful ignorance and intellectual laziness of the American people as the crucial underpinning of this nation's woes, we will never get anywhere.

Obama speaks to the intelligent parts of all of us, and refuses to speak as though we are less than that. It's a great start, and we are seeing great results.

In the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

Methinks Mr. Obama should give you a gig as a speechwriter,  GD. ;-)

I've watched our press, in particular, giving complete morons a megaphone with which to spew utter crap. (Ann Coulter, anyone?)  I sit back, flabbergasted, as our bought-and-sold media gives credibility where none is due and there seems no shortage of sheep ready to carry the banner of The New Idiocracy to new heights.

It gets rather depressing when I see some school board seriously consider teaching whatever the hell "intelligent design" is in science class and the media covering this blasphemy thinks that's OK. Well it's not OK to teach our kids this crap any more than it was for Germany to teach their kids that Jews were some "mistake" the Creator made and thus it's OK to exterminate them.

This ain't no party. This ain't no disco. This ain't no foolin' around!
