Some people say good things; others do good things.  Even if this guy turns out to be only the former, his brand of apology (the "saying good things" part) is a change of pace.
We hope against hope that we can stumble upon someone who does both.  Fingers crossed!

I have to admit that I am a hopeless optimist usually, even though it may not sound so from my posts. I seriously believe, from my own background that:

Our military is peopled mostly by persons of great integrity--and more so than any of the business sectors I have worked with

Our citizens bullshit detectors are now finally going off and will produce a different result in this election

That all of us hunger for the integrity of officials and politicians who will tell us the truth no matter how distasteful

I also believe that our duty as citizens is to exercise the same oversight our congress is failing to perform. And to my mind that means keeping up one's guard until all of the results are in.

Props to General Cucolo for offering the country what is due from a man of integrity.

But just as people have noted on this site, when our candidates win, the fight is not over because we must continue to exercise our responsibility as citizens to oversee whether they are performing on their promises.

Citizens too lazy, busy with being consumers and acting as customers of government have failed to exercise oversight over Congress and all other elected officials.

Most citizens seem to spend less time in judging an elected official they will or will not support than in choosing a new outfit.

On the main topic, the military has been subject over the last decades to an element of political corruption by what I believe to be a minority with a particular right wing/religious agenda. Those need to go. I'm reasonably sure the good, solid core will not be unhappy to see them depart.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]

are not big G.W. Bush fans. I'm hoping that a lot of soldiers, even the big brass, find Bush as distasteful as we do.
