    we are all getting older.  Dementia is a pathological condition, not a normal consequence of aging. It is extremely common in this country due to atherosclerosis and other factors we haven't identified yet, but it is not normal.  A little forgetfulness (where did I put my keys, what was his name again) yes, but not to the degree that it can't be compensated for by increased executive ability.

        Which is not because he's old.  (P.S. I am 42 and I insist on this point because I'm studying medicine and the medical community is trying to break the misconception that "losing it" is a normal part of aging.
