Is eminently qualified serving in the Congress for over 20 years and as majority leader for 6 of those. He would better position Missouri, critical swing state, for the Obama column on election night.  He has a very strong anti-NAFTA record and is beloved by unions which would help in PA, OH, and MI.  In fact, the Obama campaign could park him in the Great Lakes region for much of the fall offensive.  He surely has a great knowledge of many of the salient issues, tax policy, health care, and Social Security/Medicare.  His experience in the Congress would be invaluable in getting Obama's agenda through both houses.  He is a tireless campaigner with few if any real skeletons.  He would be well-qualified to assume the office but after eight years probably too old to succeed. He would be 75 after eight years.  Thus, leaving the field quite open for up and coming Democrats to succeed President Obama.

Both Gephardt and Daschle have worked as lobbyists so they are already disqualified from the VP list. Obama can not pick a VP who has worked as a lobbyists or have taken money from lobbyists. It would contradict his message of no lobbyists. The GOP would have a field day if Obama picked either one of them especially since Obama has attacked McCain for hiring lobbyists.

would've been a great pick for Kerry, but he isn't right for Obama.
