    They're smarter than this.

    Well, I guess I thought they were.

    I've seen Republicans hijack a Green Party ticket (in New York), but I never ever thought I'd see the Greens hijack the Republican ticket. Maybe they aren't as electorally incompetent as I thought they were.

      I honestly believe Kelleher benefited from name recognition stemming from two things:

      1. He has been on the ballot every election year since 1972 (really!)
      1. His name is similar to former Senate Majority Leader Bob Keenan.
      •  more name recognition (0+ / 0-)

         3. and the name of the guy in #2 has a name similar to Captain Kangaroo--Bob Keeshan...so he was seen as trustworthy and caring. Or something.

         And Kelleher still has those mighty eyebrows and cool railroad engineer's cap, so that counts for something, too.  
          Somewhat more seriously, it just shows that almost anything can happen in a low turnout, low information election.
