  •  Wallis is a very persuasive progressive voice (3+ / 0-)

I'm doing my best to get there with him!

there are a lot of progressive Christians out here and we do not want to be lumped together in people's minds with fundie fruitcakes like Dobson.

We are willing to work with all faiths, agnostics and atheists to advance the social justice goals that will make the world a better place.

    peace be with you, mrchumchum!

It's funny but Obama really did make me rethink my attitudes about Christians.  As hokey as people may think that is, he really did.  I have been a severe critic of Christians.  I think it mostly came from my experience as a kid (being a total atheist) and from the NutJob Right Wing Preachers (tm).

I've always loved the Buddha, for his truly wondrous, liberating and humane insight he had into life, but I'm warming up to Jesus because he was another one the true revolutionaries, there's no doubting that.  It's just that I think the religion and it's book have taken a very windy road.  I'm chilling out a great deal as I hear from good people, such as yourself, with an eye on what (I think) Jesus was actually talking about.  He championed ideas that are still completely revolutionary today.  Peace and love.

so, peace be with you too, TrueBlueMajority.

      Bush can't pardon himself.

      •  wow--that's deep (3+ / 0-)

actually Jesus was pretty cool by modern revolutionary standards: he spoke truth to power and was willing to die for what he believed in.

so I'm glad if Obama and I and other progressive people of faith have helped you think better of him.

I was taught that buddhism and christianity do not contradict each other so I'm warming up to the Buddha!

So I am proud to stand with you against NutJob Right Wing Preachers (tm) and other misuses of religion and stand with you in support of the compassionate values that real followers of Jesus are working for: feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, welcoming the outcast, healing the broken, and smacking down hypocrites like Dobson!
