Whatever the implications of this event for the Iraqis, and I hope they are good, I don't think this means a whole lot for the election ultimately. It's still a matter of Blue states plus one or two of the swing states. Bush is making his speech at noon on a Sunday, when a lot of his audience will be at church 11 days before Christmas. Not the best timing to impact an election. I suspect that the bushies will  put him on trial soon so as to keep him in the news, otherwise it will be forgotten as soon as the media finds something else to obsess about. For example what if attacks against the troops continue or even escalate? What if there is an Islamic revolution?

Actually, one thing about this capture definitely helped the Democrats - it happened now, and not 3 days before the election.

Of course, there's always Bin Laden...
