I think this may play out alot like the killing of Saddam's two son's. The Iraqis where jubilant for awhile, and many American's where proud and releaved for a time as they thought the resistence whould die down.

Will the Iraqis be happy about the continuing occupation now, or will they feel more strongly that we ought to go home? I think it is very likely that they will be more interested in running thier own affairs now that they don't have to worry that Saddam will come back.

If the attacks continue, the American people will have thier hopes dashed again that we have found a way out of this mess. As the bible says "Hope defered maketh the heart sick".

If the Iraqis settle down and all goes well it will be an awful outcome. It will vindicate the doctrine of pre-emptive war and set us on a course of being the new Rome, and pave the way for Bush's election thus aiding the facist takeover of this country.

That's my bet too. Only time will tell, lots of hoopla today but no one can say what will be happening next week or next month.

I pray things settle down. I have a close friend going to Iraq in january. I really would like her home healthy and safe. Every square inch of iraq isnt worth a drop of her blood.

But this wont end regardless. PNAC has their hands on Iraq and theyre not letting go. They are attempting to set up a puppet government and finding it a little harder than they thought. Partially because the stooges they picked are such obvious liars and scumbags. The foreign policy debate may boil down to whether we want to try to become an Empire. Or whether we are still patriots.. and not redcoats.
