This thread is unbelievable.  All full of "yeah. buts."  What next?  This: we lose 45 states with Dean and 40 with anybody else.  Saddam in cuffs...Medicare bill...improving economy.  The only thing we can do know is grit our teeth and bear it ... then work like hell to make sure Hillary in 2008 doesn't condemn us to GOP rule until 2016.

      LOL

Bush I had the Gulf War, remember?

Saddam in cuffs is not Saddam dead, the attacks stopping, etc.

Medicare? Every single senior I know HATES that bill. A dem issue.

Improving economy? More like a Jobless Recovery.

The Dems still have the issues that matter to a lot of people.

Saddam being in cuffs, while a Good Thing, isn't the coup de grace the GOP hopes it is.

Especially if he reveals the man behind Bush's curtain...(ie. no WMD, lies about the war, the Truth about who armed him, etc.).

A long year of continuing quagmire in Iraq will put the lie to Bush's "success" with this disasterous war.

      Tuffie,

Wow, a little quick to admit defeat are we?  This IS a big boost for Bush in the short term.  It could go either way for him by the time it counts next year.

No chance they let Saddam talk freely without Karl in the editing room.  That surely eliminates the Hague.  They may decide quickly that Saddam alive is too much a liability and execute him (with likely cover story) summarily.

Dean or Clark will move the debate to the domestic front if the debacle in Iraq clears up.
If the Iraq situation stays ugly, it can only hurt Bush.  "But we got Saddam!" rings hollow if troops continue to die over there.

Bull.  This was probable before the election.  Anyone wishing to take on Bush will have thought this through, just like they will have thought through the death of Reagan and the capture/killing of Osama, or another terrorist attack for Bush to capitalize upon.

Bush manages not to screw up one aspect of this ill-begotten war and you're ready to throw in the towel, the press is ready to hand him the election.  I'm glad some good came out of this mess, but it won't be enough to paper over the lies, corruption, death and chaos that got us here.
