I will carefully monitor the program

Is the President really the one who should monitor the program?

Just say no to Larry C. Johnson

I believe it's under the eye of the executive branch.  Could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

      as should Congress.

The new bill severely restricts what the FISA court gets to see, thus making it very difficult for them to exercise any kind of oversight.

the FISA court doesn't fill me with any confidence. Quite the opposite, actually.

The fact that he supports legislation that restricts the court's oversight tells us that he thinks having these unchecked spying powers will be useful to him. And I doubt he would appoint any judges who would get in the way of that.

Your assertion the programs will stop under Obama is entirely faith-based. Not one thing Obama has said since he came out in support of the FISA bill has indicated he will seek to end the program in any way, shape, or form.

I respectfully disagree. I live in Illinois and have seen Obama work for years. I do believe him for very good reason.

              realism.

This is not religion. There is no blind faith here. If you want me to believe Obama will end the spying programs, show me actual proof.

You appear to know him, and you've decided that's enough for you. But I don't know him, and you're going to have to provide proof that will satisfy the millions like me who have not had the privilege of watching him in his earlier career.

Otherwise, I'll take him at his word when he says he supports this legislation and will continue the spying programs under his administration.
