  •  I wish I could find the interview where (5+ / 0-)

Russ said that Roberts was not Bushco's first choice. Just guessing here, but maybe he figured the best that could be done was let Roberts go through rather than have Bushco put up someone even worse. Maybe.

Yes, I would have preferred if Russ did not vote for Roberts or Ashcroft, but even in doing so he was keeping to a previously stated principle. I don't like the end result, but I still admire the principle.

Besides, Ashcroft ended up telling Gonzo to go pound sand from his hospital bed, so maybe there is a little bit of non-wingnut there after all...

I don't think voting for nominees I don't like is a direct attack on the Constitution like the MCA, this FISA compromise, the PATRIOT act, etc., and Russ has opposed all those things.

I think his "Mr. Constitution" title still stands.

    •  As does the title (0+ / 0-)

      our Democratic nominee, Barack Obama.

You see even Russ Feingold isn't beyond reproach.

And I don't believe Obama voted for Justice Roberts.

This FISA compromise is not the fricking end of the world as we know it as some are suggesting.

      •  I don't think Obama not winning the WH is the (7+ / 0-)

        end of the world, either.

I think the end of America, though, is going to consist of people day in and day out selling principle for their own gain and convenience - that rots a society.

When I see someone who knows where they stand, and they stand for more freedom for the individual, not less, and are not so worried about their own  hide that they are not afraid to speak out, I am going to try to emulate that person and I am going to support that person because that is being the change I seek and that helps strengthen a society in the long run.
