  •  From Another Marine Mom (10+ / 0-)

We have two of our four sons who were in the military.  Our USMC son, 5811 was part of the Fallujah assault during his first tour.  His second tour had him 'outside the wire' more often than not---he was part of the IED Search Team, working with the EOD.  He turned 21, while in the sandbox.  He became a man before his time.  I wanted to say that I understand. My USMC son shared some of the stories about what he witnessed and it grieves my heart.  Our other son, was in the Air Force--he was part of AMMO.  Another job every mother wants her child to have as a job description.  Both boys are out now, the USMC is in IRR--this October will be the end of his first civilian year.
He has had some difficult days, remembering-not reliving-his actions during the course of this conflict/war/abomination.
SEMPER FI MOM---there is so much more that I want to say but have so few words that will express clearly that sense of 'the hole' in one's heart.  I used to drive up and down our State Highway, screaming at the top of my lungs, driving very fast while USMC was in the sandbox.  It was one of the ways I found that helped me cope--silly as it may seem, it worked.
Thank you for having raised such wonderful young men, that they have the fortitude to follow THEIR beliefs.  I am in awe of our sons, their willingness to stand where others are afraid to travel.
Celeste--SEMPER FI also--May God hold your heart in His Arms. May Your Son Rest in Peace.
Let's get some of those who shout the most, to either enlist in the Armed Services, or have THEIR children do what ours have done.

I've done it myself. I have strongly recommended to many others.  It does work.  I'm not too crazy about anyone doing it on the highway - but try it. Just get away from human beings and let it rip. You'll lighten the load.

Cheney et all the chickenhawks out to live outside the green zone in Iraq until they work this mess out.  Not a nationbuilder INDEED!
