at the ACLU and at the EFF has poured over this bill. There isn't a loophole in it that means it secret good news for us.

It's closing off every avenue for further investigation of the illegal program AND providing vast warrantless spying powers to the executive.

    •  This is the conventional answer, I know, just (0+ / 0-)

like all evidence pointed to WMD in Iraq...has it not occurred to any of these minds that maybe it isn't a benefit during a time of compromise to point out loopholes that we can use in the future?

I've read the bill, I see it written in plain English.  Perhaps I'll just wait to see if what I suspect comes to fruition and let everyone else continue to rage about it then.

and AG from investigating. They'll have full access to all the secrets.

        •  If we all bail (0+ / 0-)

and sabotage our side, then I guess we won't win.

Then FISA and spying on us will be permanent under permanent GOP rule. Things can get worse.

If we are viewed as flakes who bail at the first disagreement, what kind of influence would you expect?

However, if we are viewed as core and loyal supporters who dissent in a constructive way, we'll be more influential.

FWIW, I think the message has been sent loud and clear. I think we need to put pressure on this in 2009 to launch a full investigation.

          •  Oh, absolutely (0+ / 0-)

the pressure will continue. Immunity can't be revoked, but the rest of this crappy bill can be repealed. Along with the MCA.
