Even though he is a major flip flopper and will have a little bit of a problem with his religion, he's probably the best pick out of a bad bunch.

      hopes to impress his base

    •  he's younger (0+ / 0-)

Something mcslain thinks will override his senility. He knows he's losing the battle he's spinning on Iraq. So he has finally realized that the economy is the #1 issue on American's minds. He needs Romney because he already admitted he doesn't know much about the economy Remember Romney saying during one of the debates that Mcpain has not even run a business so how can he run the country? Sorry Mitt we Americans are not a business we are hard working ppl. The one's that built this country, without your help i may add.
Their desperation is making me giddy!

    •  I would agree that a Romney pick... (0+ / 0-)

would be playing to their base--even though it would lose a significant portion of evangelical support.  They have already lost a lot of younger evangelicals anyway.  Some evangelical leaders like Dobson are so anti-Obama that they are now belatedly coming out to "support" McCain but likely Romney will turn them off again.  If McCain wanted to keep the RW evangelical leadership, he would need to pick Huckabee.  But he knows that he needs to placate the plutocrats who would be comfortable with Romney and very uncomfortable with the idea of Huckabee being a heartbeat away from the presidency and be in line for the presidency when Mr. One-termer bows out in favor of his VP pick.  The fact that McCain admits he's only interested in one term makes his VP pick critical.  Personally, I don't care one way or the other as I believe Obama will be elected.
