    That's what this is about: paying any price to avoid a reevaluation of the way we live, and ordinary people are just as guilty of that sentiment as the elite.

    As if the outrageous cost of the oil demanded by its energy-intensive extraction and the low energy density and therefore value won't also force us to give up our cars, bundle up in the winter, and live the rest of our lives on the equivalent of crash diets.

      The Monthly Review has an ecology issue and has several good articles.  Peak oil and Energy Imperialism and Climate Change Limits to Growth.  For capitalism to really succeed it requires economic growth.  Peak oil and climate change place severe restrictions on growth.  And, heaven forbid, wars might become really expensive.
