    In 1936, the venerable Literary Digest, whose results were widely publicized, predicted a blowout for Landon over FDR. The upstarts like Gallup predicted the opposite. There was no bandwagon effect - Landon won two states.

      ~5% of voters just want to vote for the winner.

      Unfortunately, perceived momentum matters.

      It turns out that Bush IS a uniter... he united the good half of the country virulently against him.
