  •  Exactly - this is good for OBAMA! (9+ / 0-)

If your candidate is absolutely annihilating the other guy, why bother to donate, to work, or even turn out on election day?

This is gonna be an historic landslide - and the more Obama supporters turn out, the better it will be for down-ballot Democrats.

I was amazed (by the arrogance of the distortion) - but completely unsurprised.  We will see much, much, more of this crap between now and November.

And now that Rove is back in charge, outrage will be heaped upon outrage.

    •  what about the 1.2 mm signatories (1+ / 0-)

I've heard about to the petition for increased drilling?

Sounds like the people (as opposed to the People) are being stupid again.

      •  You can get 1.2 mil (5+ / 0-)

signatures on anything if you try, and if you pay enough people.

Oil companies have tons of cash - I wouldn't be surprised if they spent some of it on armies of arm-twisters.

      •  Has to be answered. By pointing out: (9+ / 0-)

There are no rigs available for increased drilling!

Big Oil is fighting tooth and nail against "use it or lose it" provisions on leases they already have!

There is no refinery capacity to refine more oil - because Big Oil has been buying up and shutting down independent refineries for 30 years!  And the majors have testified that they don't want new refineries!

Reducing demand will crash the price - we couldn't drill our way out of this if we wanted to.

        •  I was somewhat aware of big oil (2+ / 0-)

NOT asking for permits for new refineries.  I wasn't aware of them buying up and shutting down independent refiners for 30 years.

What part of this do the Republicans and other ig'nint folks not understand?  And why doesn't the tradmedia/RWCM/MSM tell us about it?  Oh wait....

          •  No surprise - got almost no coverage (0+ / 0-)

I became aware of it when Pat Robertson (yes, THAT Pat Robertson) tried - unsuccessfully - to buy one of em and put it back into operation a few years back.  There were a few news stories then - because it was Robertson.

        •  Not the whole truth (0+ / 0-)

They've been shutting down indies, but that's probably simply an effort to smother competition.  In the last 30 years, they have been adding capacity to existing refineries, since doing so is easier and cheaper than getting new sites approved and constructing.
