    The problem with the "close race to boost profits" argument is that a sure way to boost corporate profits is to put a republican in the White House.  So a close race actually is a threat to profits, since it risks the election of a democrat who will not serve corporate interests as reliably as a republican would.

    Furthermore, the corporate media has demonstrated they do not need elections to boost ratings.  All they need is a sex scandal or an celebrity caught doing something scandalous, and they can jack their ratings.
