And I believe that Elizabeth has forgiven him, and did support his candidacy for the reasons she gave when replying to denny from seatle (who posted under her diary yesterday).  She believes in the issues, and the man, even if the man is weak.

Thoughts to John and Elizabeth (5+ / 0-)

While I must admit to being absolutely furious with the possible consequences to the country due to John's selfishness, I hope that you both find eventual calm and comfort, both with one another, if that's what you want, and from the circus masquerading as media. I don't understand why you two campaigned knowing this, and I've lost much of my respect because of it, but I wish you well. Sincerely. And I'm very sorry that you have to go through this on such a public stage, Elizabeth.

        Each of us (87+ / 0-)

Each of us has a day we wish we could take back. We are all imperfect beings, Denny. Here's what I know, looking back: poverty, a truly aggressive and progressive environmental platform, universal health care would not have been part of the discussion if someone of force and vision had not been there to make them part of the conversation.

An imperfect man with a truly progressive vision who spoke to and for those whom others ignored? Yes, that is who I supported.

An imperfect man who had come to face his own imperfections and was seeking to redeem himself to those closest to him? Yes, that is who I supported.

In all of the ballots of all of the men who have ever run for this office, only a handful might have thought themselves perfect.  Most knew better.

This is not to excuse the conduct in any way. I do not and maybe more importantly he does not.

given the size of that thread, kind of a daunting hunt.

It's interesting  Elizabeth does totally sidestep Denny's plaint about how destructive to the party this could have been AND about her own role in that.

but if one is going to develop tunnel vision, I can't think of a better reason that because one is fixated on correcting poverty.

Please, God, don't let the Democratic party make me vote for some pinhead who believes in the GWOT. God grinned...

very beginning of the 2007 campaign, saying she wanted to give Americans the opportunity "to vote for this good, GOOD man."

i believe she truly believes that and in her mind that assessment is well-thought-out.  We now know (esp. AJ's Mom) that Elizabeth can have motes or be short-sighted, but I do believe she truly believes everything she says and I have no doubt she believes 100% in the innate goodness of her John.  (Mistakes or not.)

John and Elizabeth put themselves on the line (1+ / 0-)

        for this country.

His candidacy wasn't about his shame, it was about our future and what he would work for.  She believed in him, and he tried.  This episode should have stayed private.  It's none of our business.  It's also human and he's expressed shame, something I've seen way too little of in office lately.  I will not condemn him.
