  •  This is somewhat Jingo-istic (0+ / 0-)

For instance, if we wanted to make our government more green and spend less money doing it we'd be much better buying Japanese vehicles

    •  There's no significant difference in the (0+ / 0-)

greenness of a Harley and a Kawasaki, although there is a price difference. McCain's masters simply don't want any regulation of business whatsoever, so he's against it.

In 2000, a criminal became President. In 2004, we failed to remove him.

For whatever theoretical benefit to the environment that Japanese vehicles may or may not contribute to, the ascendancy of the Japanese automakers in the wake of the imminent financial ruin of America's automakers is ultimately a financial calamity for America.  A nation that only consumes cars manufactured by other countries is infinitely more vulnerable (in every sense of the word) than an nation who primarily consumes cars it makes itself.

Things have improved since then, but the benefit of having my Mazda GLC start every time and never leave me stranded at the side of the road in the days before cell phones was not theoretical.

Getting to know lots of car mechanics when I was driving an Olds Cutlass was a theoretical benefit.
