my daughter, who just graduated from Columbia, was going through a rough time.

A local cop, who's not a bad guy, wanted to talk with her.  She was sleeping.  I invited him into my house, and he looked around, making mental notes.

    No problem.

Lesson:  You want to give government additional investigative powers?

Fine.  Invite the cop into your house.  If you've got nothing to hide, no problem.

they'll just stroll on in whenever they feel like it.

After a while, they'll start helping themselves to whatever they want. If they like your TV, they'll take it. If they like your car, they'll take it. If they like your house, they'll take it.

And they won't stop with property. They'll do what they like to people too. And that's when it gets really, really ugly.
