  •  I humbly disagree. Eyes have opened. (4+ / 0-)

Maybe not all evangelical Christians have figured out that they've been played, but I can say from firsthand knowledge that the "scales have fallen from the eyes" of many.  They are fully aware that they had control of all branches of government from 2001 to 2007, and that they got... bupkis, nada, nothing that they were promised.  They are not happy.  They are dispirited.  You want to know what they've got to say?  Here's what my 78-year old mother says:  "The Republicans aren't really going to doing anything about abortion.  Why would they kill the goose that laid the golden egg."

Yep.  That's right.  The old lady has seen it for what it is.  She, her sister, and many of their friends have no intention of voting - at least not for the President - this cycle.  They were enthusiastic Huckabee supporters.  Now, if McCain chooses Huckabee as Vice President, that's a game changer.  My mother will actively support the ticket in the belief that God will intervene to put the right man in the oval office.

Granted, this is all anecdotal, but I relate it to you because my mother is a mainstream Fundi, if there is such a thing.  Since 1980, she's voted  based on right to life, moral values, and anti-communist  stance.  She's been solidly Republican since Saint Ronald Reagan, and was a swing voter prior to that.  Now, she's a non-voter, she who never missed an election since the day she became a citizen in 1957, and she is not alone.
