and what I quoted was a rapidly typed note from friend to friend ... maybe I should just have corrected it before posting.

it certainly wouldn't have launched me into smart-ass mode, but that's not your responsibility to pre-screen my catalysts.

(and this wasn't meant to sound like an attack on you, so my apologies if it came across as such.)

i think that your armchair psychoanalysis of your friend sounds pretty plausible (of course i've never met her, so that's worth less than little.)  but, as conlakappa above stated, people like this have to get over it.

i'm not saying her feelings aren't based on legitimate life experiences... i'm sure she's been slighted and ignored countless times... most women of any age have been... but if she gives in and allows herself to feel like a victim over the results of the primary, she will be the victim of the mccain campaign's PUMA sockpuppets looking to leach away any votes from obama.

the first step to stopping victimization is to stop feeling and acting like a victim, which destroys fear's ability to cloud your judgement.  and fear is the only weapon the republicans have.

Here's the deal -- the most effective way of approaching the honest portion of the PUMA population [the wackos should be disregarded] is speaking to the exploitation by McCain.  The way to not be a victim is to get on board with core Democratic values, etc. etc.

But a good chunk of the dialogue around the PUMA phenomenon is bitching and moaning and criticizing that just gets more and more under their skins.

I think the time for kid gloves has passed, but so has the time for pointed attacks [other than revealing puppet masters and factually false info].  It's a marginal movement, but to the limited extent it is real it can make some difference in a tight election and can be exploited by the Republicans.  So it's in our interest to desist from provocation of that portion of the group that is genuine as opposed to wacko or just repubs masquerading.

Look at this thread -- so much venom that's not helping us.

I don't want us catering to this group, but I don't want us venting on them either.

Where there are McCain folks, point them out. Where there are factual distortions [e.g., Roe], point them out.  But leave the emotion alone -- it's personal and not subject to persuassion.
