    Well, yes, this is a hypocritical statement on your part. This is where the rubber meets the road, isn't it? Supporting 1st Amendment rights doesn't mean anything if you only support the exercise therof somewhere else. Being 'nervous' isn't sufficient justification for police to be detaining people and taking their property for no good reason.

    Assemble the facts here: The police say they detained these citizen journalists for an hour because they were trespassing. However, they were never placed under arrest, much less charged with anything. Yet, the police confiscated their personal property, which I assume they still have. It sure seems like the cops are looking for an extralegal means to shut these people down. I suspect that if left to their own devices the police will issue these folks an apology and give them their belongings back...sometime around the end of next week when it won't make a difference anymore.

    And by the way, I live on the West Side of St. Paul myself. I drive by the Xcel every day. I fully expect the RNC to be a royal pain in the ass, but I'm not the least bit torn about people being intimidated by the police. That's wrong no matter where it happens.
