If those 15% former Republicans, around half re-registered as Democrats with the remainder registering Inedependent.  Now think about this for a minute, if they decided to physically walk away from the R's to become I's how many of those do you think will turn back around and vote Republican?  Why change your affiliation if you have no intent on changing your vote?

So I read that to mean that there's 20% more Democratic voters than the 2006 mid-terms, plus maybe 10% disaffested former Republican voters voting for Democrats this year.  We should clean thei clock by 30% if voter registration totals tell any kind of a story.

I would ask how the percentages of Republicans reregistering as Democrats break down state by state, & then look at when their Democratic presidential primaries/caucuses were held & whether those were closed or open affairs. I would particularly look at the Clinton vote & any exit polling that found a fair percentage of her voters saying they would not vote for her in the GE even if she were nominated.

It would not be surprising to find that a fair hunk of the party switching occurred in states where the GOP presidential primary was either meaningless or predetermined, while the Democratic nomination was still up for grabs. Not to give that pilonidal-cyst-that-walks-like-a-man Limbaugh credit, but the idea of switching registration to screw with the other party's nominating process has occurred to many folks long before this year. We may fully expect such party-switchers to be back in the GOP column come November.
