    Finally, an RNC Diary.

I have been looking for a Diary to do a "Pro / Con" comparison on the RNC curtailment/cancelation.  Pro being good for Dems., Con being bad for Dems. So here I go:

    1. Pro - I am sure they will have Bush do some sort of video thing during the convention from some sort of command post which may focus more attention on Bush than if there was no Gustav and he was speaking in person.
    1. Con - Having an excuse to not have Bush and Cheney at the convention is an obvious gift for McCain.
    1. Pro - The lack of "full" RNC in combination with the Gustav and later Hanna coverage will prevent McCain from getting any sort of positive bounce coming out of his convention.
    1. Con - The lack of "full" RNC in combination with the Gustav and later Hanna coverage will mean a lack of gaffes and any real media critique of McCain and the Republicans.
    1. Pro - We won't see media coverage of the protests outside of the RNC which could create blowback on Obama and the Dems., since the Republicans are sure to paint them as liberal hippies and try to link them to Obama.
    1. Con - We won't see media coverage of the protests outside of the RNC which could of been contrasted with the protest-free DNC to show how much the people dislike the Republican brand.
    1. Pro - The Republicans won't be able to introduce Sarah Palin to the Country and she won't be able to make some sort of charming speech to any sort of large national audience.
    1. Con -  The Republicans won't be able to introduce Sarah Palin to the Country, so the media and Hillary won't be able to pick her scant resume apart in front a  of large national audience.
    1. Pro - If the Republican's response to Gustav turns out to be a success (e.g., few or no deaths and all levees hold) they won't be able to emphasize this to the nation through the RNC coverage.
    1. Con - If the Republican's response to Gustav turns out to be a failure (e.g., few or no deaths or the levees fail) there will not be a split screen of flooding and Republicans partying.

I'm sure there are others, but that's what I could come up with off the top of my head.  I am not saying the lack of any real RNC will be a wash, but I don't think we should celebrate or commisurate over the lack of a "full" RNC until we see how this plays out.
