Incumbents aren't automatically entitled to be renominated by their parties, they have to earn the privilege.  If they aren't serving the interests of their constituents, they should be given the boot.  This is doubly true in safe districts, where the general election is often uncompetitive.    To that an uncorrupt incumbent should never by challenged is an anathema to Democracy.  They serve at our pleasure.

    •  We ditched Al- Bush-Wynn in MD-04 (7+ / 0-)

Now it is time to bounce the wing-nut Harris since he knocked one of the last moderate Republicans in existence.

Gilchrest was a real person, usually not swayed by the bushite scum, although he did vote for the oilman give away energy bill after some rovian arm twisting.

So this is his payback for being a slightly independent Repub- Bobby Slots Ehrlich put his machine behind the slime Harris and knocked off Gilchrest- now we have a chance to get one more Democratic seat in Maryland.

      Will Bartlett (Md-06) fall next?

a corrupt, useless, Bush-enabling hack, defeated next cycle than Bartlett.  He's worse than Wynn, and his position in the Democratic leadership spreads the stench of his corruption throughout the entire party.

    •  what? Gilchrest was not corrupt. (10+ / 0-)

This is HUGE news.  I grew up on the Eastern Shore, and still have friends and family there.  Gilchrest was and is beloved because the one thing that people of any political persuasion care about on the Eastern Shore is the environment.  Gilchrest got attacked by the Republicans because he served his constituents' interests by defending the environment when Republicans demanded solid party-line votes from all of their members in the House.

I have a lot of Republican friends on the Eastern Shore still (there are a lot of Republicans there), and a lot of them are really upset about what their party did to Gilchrest, so a lot of them were already considering voting Democratic in response to the primary battle.  Now that the Democrat has Gilchrest's endorsement, that is going to be HUGE.

Tonight, I am calling all of my Republican friends on the Eastern Shore to let them know that Gilchrest has endorsed the Democrat.  I am sure that this will be the final tipping point for them to get them to vote (for the first time for some of them) against their party for the Democratic candidate!

      Exciting news indeed.
