    But I suspect they are more likely to circle the wagons than they are to come out shaking hands.  I don't like the idea of counting on the GOP for anything, not if we can help it.

      even 59. In either case, we can expect pretty much all Dems to vote with us on cloture (if they want good committee assignments anyway) even if they don't vote with us on the actual upperdown vote.

      If we get to 58-59 we'll be able to work out with 1 or 2 Republicans like Snowe or Specter or even McCain (if he reverts to his days when he had a spine) to pass good legislation.

      Arlen Specter for one comes to mind.  With the electoral winds blowing against him and others and with President Obama having the bully pulpit, I would not be surprised to see a few cross over to save their asses.  Mel Martinez comes to mind too.
