I was actually thinking to do a diary about it... Inside the envelope, along with all the usual stuff, there is what looks like an index card (you youngsters might have to look that up on wikipedia) with "Republican Party - Voter Verification Card" across the top, then my boss' name, address, congressional district, etc, and a notation that she's registered Republican.  The thing is, she's not - we verified it when she voted in the primary this year (she was registered as one years ago, but has since changed).  At the bottom of the card is a space for you to check off that you plan to vote repub, and they ask you to mail it back to the RNC.

Now, the thing is - they do the usual direct mail ploy of trying to make it look like an "official" document.    In this case, it seems like they might be shooting themselves in the foot.  It's not a registration card, and signing/sending it would not change your registration.  However, a low-info voter could very well think that it is a "verification" that they are correctly registered - even if they're not.  So they're potentially putting people at ease about their voting status even if there is a problem.

Does this seem stupid to anyone else?

Now, go spread some peace, love and understanding. Use force if necessary. - Phil N DeBlanc
