  •  It was probably (just a little) harder for her (0+ / 0-)

to get heroin... Especially since she apparently had a willing doctor who was playing along. I'm not sure what happened to him. It's like it all just quietly went away.

Hydrocodone (the narcotic in Vicodin) is almost always mixed with tylenol. That's so junkies won't consume too much; if they do, the tylenol will kill you and your liver long before the narcotic. This keeps it a Schedule III drug so that it can be called in over the phone - and thus no written prescription. This is very useful for say, dentists. It's pretty strong yet it's not watched quite as much as some things are.

Oxycodone (Oxycontin, Percodan Percocet) Can be prescribed without Tylenol - which is what Oxycontin is... Just time-released oxycodone with nothing else. It's a Schedule II drug and cannot be phoned in. You must present a written prescription and in some states, that must be done in triplicate.

This is one reason Perdue Pharma got in so much hot water over "Oxys" - people could consume huge wads of it once their tolerance built up without worrying about ODing on the tylenol. Originally there was a 160mg Oxycontin (no longer made) in the shape of a coffin. If I took one of those, I'm quite sure I'd be dead.

This ain't no party. This ain't no disco. This ain't no foolin' around!
