when it was still capitol of the USSR.  That makes me an expert in all of the former Soviet republics (even those I didn't visit) as well as their client states in eastern Europe.  Oh, and I was in Istanbul, which makes me an expert in the countries that were once part of the Ottoman Empire.

    •  And I have changed planes in Hong Kong (1+ / 0-)

I could be Secretary of State with a China specialization (of course, I think I probly could have done better than Bush in the first half year of his term).

    •  I visited Moscow, Sochi, & Leningrad (0+ / 0-)

in 1976 (Breshnev era.)  And I can speak a whole five-ten words in Russian.  So I think I'm more qualified.  ;-)

      •  I was in Leningrad and Vilnius (0+ / 0-)

in 1972, and in Almati, Moscow, Samarkand, Tashkent, Yerevan, and Baku in 1970.  And visited Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia (both of them), Hungary, and Poland.  And other countries in eastern and central Europe (and western Europe) and have two years of college-level Russian, and German and French, and ...  Damnit!  I am overqualified for this kind of job.
